April 3, 2009

Yikes-Even though this part of the website hasn’t been updated for a while, don’t think for a minute that there hasn’t been a lot of praising and praying going on at HOPE!
Praises:
• Leah-she has filled our home and our hearts
• HOPE’s needs continue to be met by the obedience of God’s children
• Growth at the church in Croix des Bouquets
• A great Evangelical Crusade at the church (five nights with more than 400 people each night)
• Successful mobile medical and VBS programs that are meeting the physical and spiritual needs of our neighbors.
• Visitors to HOPE and our faithful prayer warriors

Prayer Requests:
• Opportunities for the girls to demonstrate compassion for our neighbors
• More prayer support.  We can’t do it without YOU!!
• That ideas we have for new programs are God’s plans, not our own
• Health
• Financial partners-economic conditions are leading people to examine their giving, pray that giving continues to support the girls lives at HOPE.

December 12, 2008

Praises:

  • Leah is gaining weight and even sleeping throught the night (most of the time)
  • For all the folks working so hard to make sure the gifts from Operation Ton Ton Noel arrive (all who sponsored girls, shopped and shipped packages, our statesite co-ordinators the Dials family, our last minute packers the Kovinchick family, the folks from Georgiana UMC who carried in 4 suitcases last week, and the Banks boys who will carry in the rest tomorrow)
  • For the wonderful teachers we have at HOPE, they are preparing a Christmas extravaganza party for Tuesday.
  • For all the great people that made the container a reality!!!
  • For all the folks who lift us in prayer EVERY DAY.

Prayer Requests:

  • For the people of Haiti as the Christmas Season is upon us, that they would come to know and love our Lord and Savior
  • That the girls would continue to have tender hearts toward their fellow Haitians and that we can find ways to help the show their compassion.
  • For continued health of the girls and the staff, especially for Leah as she strives for growth and developmental milestones.
  • Continued prayer and financial support.

November 13, 2008

Praises:
HOPE IS FULL.  Twenty precious girls call HOPE home!!
Sweet Leah Isabelle Christian has joined the ranks to fill our hearts and our home.

Dedicated supporters that stand by us even during the difficult financial times.

Great response to Operation Ton Ton Noel 2008 ensuring the girls have a Christmas to remember.

Enthusiastic response to the GIVE A DAY of HOPE Program for 2009.

An outstanding inspection by IBESR this month (like Haitian social services, they are our licensing agency)

Prayers:
That Leah will quickly regain health and strength.

That English class will continue to go well with the older girls.  We hear so much more English in their conversations now.

The country of Haiti; the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere hit hard by hurricanes and the aftermath of such destruction, pray for rebuilding and that neighbor will help neighbor.

Continued support of financial partners and the GIVE A DAY of HOPE Program.

Pray for our neighbors in Croix des Bouquets, even if they were not directly affected by the weather, they are supporting family in the areas affected and that makes it even more difficult for them.

September 29, 2008

Praises:
? All went well during our long absence.  Moseleys survived the 5 weeks at HOPE and the girls were all happy and healthy.
? Music-the older girls started their music lessons with Vicki on the recorder.  Lessons continue with Rachel Anderson (Bert and Roberta’s daughter visiting for a while).
? The start of another school year.  We have to qualified teachers working with the girls now and we started English classes three days a week.
? Protection from the storms.  As the hurricanes whipped through Haiti, our facility withstood the winds and rain and our neighborhood did not flood.

Prayer requests:
? Though our neighborhood was protected during the storms, many areas near us suffered incredible damage.  Not only did people lose homes and belongings, but many crops have been destroyed and damaged and Haiti’s already poor infrastructure suffered some destructive damage.  All this means that the price of food and supplies with continue to increase and folks will struggle even more to feed their families.  Keep Haiti in your prayers.
? Pray for wisdom and discernment for us as so many are in need and ask for help.
? Continue to lift the girls in prayer.

June 23, 2008

Praises:

? We are thankful for a strong finish to the school year.  The   girls are moving along quickly and continue to love school and their teachers.
? We praise the Lord for the continued health of the girls.  We have had a long spell of good health, no colds, infections or other problems.  Our 2 “asthma gals” (Nada and Fedia) have not had any flare ups for some time.
? We are grateful for change.  The girls are experiencing something new this year as our middle son Josh graduated from High School and moved back to the US.  We mourn losing his daily dose of dry humor but are excited for the new challenges God has in store for him.  Their family has now changed and the girls have to adjust.
? Summer is here.  I don’t know about you, but the relaxation of school time schedules is freeing.  We have the chance to do some new and fun things now without the concerns of homework, early bedtimes and sticking rigidly to routine.
? We are thankful for God’s provision.  He has been faithful to all of our needs and continues to provide just what we need, right when we need it.

Prayers:

? Pray for the girls as we prepare to leave them in the hands of John and Vickie Mosely when we leave for the US in July.  There is always a whirlwind of preparation and the girls need a lot of reassurance that we will be back.
? Pray for the Moselys as they leave their home and family and come to Haiti for 5 weeks to care for the girls.
? Pray for continued support of HOPE and pray for the girls by name:

Egnese, Rose, Monese, Rose-Myrlande, Gina, Mananguetha, Ronise, Guerda, Lovely, Fedia, Gherlie, Christella, Daphka, Berlinda, Sterline, Loudia, Nada, Chasley and Chrisna.

4 April 2008

*Note:  It seems that I made some sort of goof when I updated this page on March 14th.  Sorry to have left you all out of the loop

Praises:

  • We are thankful for the rain we have been getting.  We hadn't had rain since December and things were pretty brown.  Now things are turning green andour new flower seeds are sprouting.
  • People continue to visit us (on the web and in person).  We are so thankful for your faithful prayers.
  • The last couple of months of school are here and it is wonderful to see how much the girls are learning.  We are so thankful for the strong minds God has blessed the girls with, and the great teachers we have here.

Prayers:

  • Pray for wisdom as we parent in this culture.  So many things are different!
  • Pray that the girls continue to ask questions about Jesus and Bible stories.  Faith grows this way!
  • Pray that people will continue to tell us stories of blessings in their lives.  We live on prayers and this kind of encouragement.
  • Pray for the continued closeness of our HOPE family.

29 Feb 2008

Praises:

  • We have officially started dance classes for the girls.  We are blessed by students from Quisqueya Christian School (where the Banks kids attend) who volunteered to teach the girls once a week for about 6 weeks as part of their service and outreach programs.
  • A group of about 20 teens from QCS are coming to HOPE tomorrow to do some maintanence and yard work here.  We are hoping to plant cherry trees, avacado trees and a good mango tree in the yard to provide shade and food.
  • Berlinda's eye infection has cleared up and Nada has not had an asthma attack so we are praising God for His healing hands.

Prayer Requests

  • As always, health, wisdom and direction for us all.
  • We are planning a staff meeting on Monday with our Haitian helpers to make some changes in our system as the girls change and grow.
  • Pray for Egnese as each Saturday she attends an English program put on by USAID, that her English will improve and that she will be a big help in conversing with the other girls to help them with English.

Welcome to our first page of Praises and Prayer Requests for the HOPE Center.  Thank you for checking in with us.

First of all Praises:

  • We Praise God for the 19 little girls He has blessed our home with.  We are in awe of how He works and how He allows us to be a part of His great plan.
  • We are thankful for the blessing of wonderful teachers and caregivers for the girls.  We really do have a family atmosphere here (a remarkably loud, busy and hectic family, but family none the less).
  • We praise God for how He provides for all of our needs.  We are currently promoting the “Give a Day of HOPE” Campaign to raise funds for our operating expenses and have been blessed by folks who have committed to sponsor 109 days in 2008!
  • We just finished celebrating Fèt Sen Valentin (Valentines Day) and focused a lot on love.  The strong love of God for us, the love of folks from far away and the love we share in the house.  It’s a wonder to consider that God created in us the desire to love and the longing to be near to Him.  We Praise Him for that.
  • Praise God that the new church CSI is building near HOPE is progressing and the first church service was held Sunday (Feb 17) on the property.  There were 15 visitors present.

The list of Praises can go on and on…

Prayer Requests:

  • We ask you to pray for us as we meet with staff over the next couple of weeks to review many of our policies and make adjustments to how some things are done here.  We pray for wisdom in broaching some of these topics and for willing responsiveness of our staff.
  • Pray for continued health of the girls.  Right now Berlinda has an eye infection and we heard Nada coughing a bit this am (she has asthma so a little cold can escalate into a problem quickly).
  • Pray that we can accomplish all that God wants us too (administrative tasks) and provide all the attention the girls need in our limited 24 hour day!
  • Pray for Egnese and Monese as they deal with some memories of life before HOPE and their feelings about those memories.
  • Most of all, pray that we would continue in God’s will for the lives of these girls, for wisdom and discernment in decisions big and small that will effect them and the impact they will have in Haiti.

Thank you for your Prayers
